Youth SVP is a voluntary Christian organisation.
When you join a Youth SVP group, you volunteer to offer one-to-one
help and support to people in need in the local community.
It was founded in 1833 in Paris by a 19 year old student called
Frederic Ozanam and his university friends.
Youth SVP is the largest youth organisation
in the Catholic Church of England & Wales. Since 1999,
over
10,000 young people have put their faith in to action by
becoming a member of Youth SVP.
SVP stands for the St Vincent de Paul Society
and is active today in 132 countries around the world. You
can set up a Youth SVP group in a secondary school, 6th form
college or parish. The first step is to recruit an adult –
say, a teacher, a parent or school chaplain – who would act
as your group adviser.
You choose your own group leader or president and you would
meet regularly to plan your activities in the local community.
